Today Mr. Obama announced that within the next two years he will seek to close down Guantanamo Bay and put an end to torture in the US. If there is any sincerity in his claims then surely this is a step in the right direction in terms of actually improving humanity as a whole. There is no doubt an argument that this sort of practice is necessary for the security of our society. While I respect anyone’s opinion I must disagree given the techniques and alternative methods available ...

Yesterday i managed to get my hands on Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning  (from here on refered to as WAR), the latest in a long list that threatens to de-throne World of Warcraft (WoW) from the top of the pile of currently existing MMORPG (Massivley Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games). So far it's only an Open Beta view of the game, offical release doesn't begin until the 17th of September, never the less i got a good insight into the game mechanics as well as the look and feel...

In my next blog, i will be launching a scathing attack on democracy  goverend  by the free market approach that our society has adopted since the Clinton era. As well as this, i want to outline a critique of the fundemental principles that hold it together, however before i do, i want to hear what those whom believe this system is the right way forward for our society have to say on the matter.  So if you believe that the free markets are the right approach, please could y...

All last week I had been feeling rather unwell. I was urinating like a fountain statute and my stomach would often enjoyed imitating the sound of a distressed heard of cattle, highly unpleasant I must confess. The Friday previously I had been  on what we like to refer to as a 'Bender', starting from about 6pm right through until 8am the following morning, walking home from a girls flat clutching a half empty bottle of Blossom Hill, muttering and cursing at random aspects of ...

If you check the article link for this article you will see that currently in the UK we are having a somewhat heated altercation over the issue of a new government bill that is being passed that will specifically target vehicles that use a lot of petrol (or gas) per mile. The idea behind this is to discourage the use of these vehicles and further more the purchase of them in the future. The tax only applies to vehicles constructed after 2001; it still allows people to use such vehicles bu...

The history of the church is one filled with many dark and disastrous moments, where the arbitrators of gods will have caused a great many to suffer.   Perhaps though the most horrendous aspect of all this though was the church condemning the philosophical approach of Dialectics.   Excuse me kind sir, but what in hells name is Dialectics?   Well Dialectics is a method of looking at a statement, hypothesis or argument and concluding that it is false ...

Usually i do a lot of my book reading, as opposed to online reading shortly before i go to bed, say 30 minutes before hand and it usually suffices. The other day however i purchased the following three books to go through: Das Kapital: A Critique of Political Economy, Author Karl Marx Social Evolution, Author Benjamin Kidd (Geek Momment) Quantum Computer Science: An Introduction, Author David Mermin I suspect the latter will be somewhat of a brain buster and i'll be honest i'm not rea...

The following article is my subjective view of the American presidential election. I'll get the disclaimer out of the way first. I’m not American, I’m not as informed as many of you regarding the current presidential race with regards to policies and so on however, as I have already said, this is my subjective view (opinion) and if anything will prove as a good way to perhaps educate myself on the subject further. I think the likes of the e-mail floating around that contain ou...

Well i've been playing Sins of a Solar Empire on and off for the past few months, it's a great game, although i have to confess i'm slowly starting to get slightly bored with it. Usually at this point i turn to mods on a game like sins to get that extra bit of replayability out of it, however i've had trouble finding some mods for the game, and i was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a mod that gave the game a little something else to keep me occupied for slightly longer. ...

Democracy and Sufferage is all about giving the people the power to decide for themselves . Many consider democracy the final form of goverement, that it is the most evolved and sophisticated form of how a society should distribute its power and decisions. While democracy as a notition is very sound and more importantly noble, being a democractic country doesn't neccisarily remove you the issue of corruption of power.  What it doesn't addres is the issue of how those whom vote form t...

Regardless of what you may or may not believe with the reasons for us going into Iraq, one of the actual issues that arise as a result of the War is the issue of Iraq's oil. Iraq has over 100 billion barrels of proven oil reserves. Just to put this into perspective, only Saudi Arabia has more conventional oil at 260 billion barrels. Upon coallition forces securing Iraq, many Western Oil companies were licking their lips at the prospect of agreeing part-ownership contracts on these res...

The right to life is one of the fundemental rights that as a society recognises,  however what about the right to die? Who would want such a thing in the first place? You may ask. Well there are people in the wolrd that are currently looking at their future and envisaging months (in some cases years) of a slow decline in the quality of life, with pain and suffering. Some of these people have asked to not go through this and have asked, in their own words, to 'Die with Dign...

Democracy in its very nature is designed to give people as a whole the ability and opportunities to dictate whom they want to govern them and most importantly of all, what interests that government will pursue for them.   We, as in western society, boastfully parade around with exponentially large banners reading ‘WE ARE A DEMOCRACY’. This attitude even empowers us in some scenarios to go into other countries and impose our social structure upon them.  ...

This blog may not apply to many JU users, as your based in America and as such probably not accustomed nor interested in what Soccer Holagnisim is, or what causes it. I'm writing this article mostly for references off site, so apologies if your not sure on the subject. Please feel free to ask questions if your interested on the matter but unsure on one or two things. I was inspired to write this piece because of the troubles in the city of Manchester earlier this week, when Glasgow Rangers pl...

I recently wrote an article that provoked some good debates amongst the JU community, while they got slightly heated at times, they for the most part have got your brain churning and asking some serious questions and looking at some serious answers.     Click here to view the article   During the article both sides of the arguement threw up questions natrually, i chose some of the most pertinent and tried to tackle them here in this article .   ...
